Win Approval for Your Automation Project
|
By now, most accounts payable managers understand that automation can significantly improve thier AP operations. However, the higher-ups in an organization may need more convincing before they agree to commit resources to the project.
This issue features advice that can help you win approval for your next automation project. All the process savings in the world mean nothing if upper management isn't onboard.

e-Invoicing and Working Capital |
A good way to build support for electronic invoicing is to demonstrate how it affects the organization as a whole. For example, e-invoicing can have far-reaching influence on cash flow.

Winning Approval |
Considering that organizations have limited funds to spend on process improvements, many automation projects meet resistance from upper management. Strategies to win support include:
- Drafting a Project Plan: A detailed plan outlining the costs and benefits can demonstrate that the project is worth the expense.
- Providing Benchmarks: Numbers speak louder than words. Show how automation has improved processes for other organizations.
- Expanding the Scope: Demonstrate how the technology will improve processes for departments outside AP. Consider finding a co-sponsor in another affected department.
Be sure to attend the session "How to Win Buy-in to Implement Best Practices and New Technologies," featuring Judy Bicking, APM, AP & Procure-to-Pay Consultant and Former Global Director to J&J's European Operations, part of TAPN's upcoming AP Productivity Summit 2011. The summit qualifies for 7.5 CEUs and 7 CPEs.
