Prevent AP Apathy
Despite the importance of the accounts payable department to the success of the organization as a whole, AP professionals can sometimes become apathetic towards their jobs, especially if they feel undervalued by their internal customers.

This issue features key tips for keeping AP staff engaged in their jobs. In addition, be sure to participate in The Accounts Payable Network's latest benchmarking survey, highlighted below.

AP Apathy
Financial Operations Networks VP Susan Bova interacts with plenty of AP professionals. In her experience, no department is immune from AP apathy. Fortunately, it's also possible to come back.

See Susan's latest blog entry, Don't Let AP Apathy Set In on TAPC.

Engaging AP

The best way to combat apathy in any situation is to engage your mind. This applies to AP professionals. The following are ways to keep you and your staff engaged in improving your AP deoartment:

  • Ask "why": When evaluating your AP processes, don't be afraid to ask management why tasks are performed the way they are

  • Develop and Track Metrics: The right metrics can help you focus your attention on improving inefficient processes.

  • Adopt a Continuous Improvement Culture: A formal program like Kaizen or Six Sigma, or simply meeting with staff each week, can keep your staff engaged.

Anpther way to engage AP staff is to involve them in process improvements, including technology upgrades.
