Video Learning Series
Continuing education should be an integral part of an AP department's long-term goals. However, travel costs and lost time can make staff training difficult to justify.
The Accounts Payable Network's video learning series gives managers and their staffs access to in-depth training on a variety of essential payables topics without leaving their offices.
Each video is 60 minutes long and is hosted by a speaker with real world AP experience. Topics range from best practices like 1099 filing and change management to technology issues like electronic invoicing and automated workflow.
Visit TAPN for a list of all 11 video topics. Employee training has never been this convenient and affordable. |

Rolling with the AP Punches
|

The theme of this issue is knowing how to deal with change. Whether you are facing changing sales tax rates, changing conditions with your certification seminar, or changing traffic conditions, you will find something useful this week. |

Solving the Sales and Use Tax Puzzle |
Doing business in the United States means dealing with thousands of state and local governments around the country all with their own sales and use tax laws. To ensure they are paying the correct tax rate to the correct entity, AP departments need to be aware of often-changing sales and use tax policies and rates.
The following TAPC resources will help AP departments better understand sales and use tax issues:
Because rates are updated monthly, be sure to check TAPC regularly for additional sales and use tax content. Just because sales and use tax is a complicated issue doesn't mean understanding it has to be.

| What's New with Nichols? |
Tom runs his certification training seminars the same way he expects a good AP department to run – he adapts to change.
While on lunch break at a training seminar in South Africa, a series of obstacles from power outages to currency exchanges stood between him and the afternoon session. Go to Tom's Blog to find out what happened.

Just for Fun! |
Ferrying kids to and from all their activities (school, sports, plays, etc) can add up to a lot of a parent's time spent sitting in traffic. One Illinois parent found a unique – albeit illegal – way to bypass the gridlock while taking his son to a tennis match.
The father flew his son to the tennis court in the family's four-seat Piper Clipper airplane and landed on a nearby golf course. While the son was happy for the ride, the Federal Aviation Administration may not be as forgiving. Read the full story here.
