AP Clerk Sues Employer for Automating

An accounts payable clerk in New Zealand will have to pay her former employer’s legal fees after suing the company for replacing her job with accounts payable automation technology.

According to an article published by New Zealand web site Suff.co, the plaintiff in the suit was a former accounts payable clerk for Air New Zealand. Back in 2002, the airline overhauled its accounts payable operation, streamlining and automating many of their processes. As a result, the clerk was laid off.

The days of paper invoices in Europe may be numbered. Proposed changes to European invoicing requirements could improve electronic invoice adoption while making it easier for U.S. companies to reclaim value-added tax payments.

A press release issued by the European Union announced that the Council of Economic Affairs has decided to simplify VAT invoice requirements, specifically with the goal to promote the adoption of e-invoicing.

Health Care Bill Brings Major 1099 Changes

Major changes to information reporting requirements have been signed into law. The recently-passed health care legislation broadens the scope of who gets a 1099 and for what.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPAC) was signed into law on March 23, 2010. Although the primary focus of the bill was to overhaul the United States’ healthcare system, the act directly impacts 1099 reporting.

UK Prime Minister Urges Back-Office Outsourcing

United Kingdom Prime Minister Gordon Brown believes outsourcing is the best way to reduce back-office costs throughout the British government. He recently spoke to a crowd at King’s Cross in London in the hopes of winning support for the initiative.

According to a report published in Talking Outsourcing, Brown hopes to cut 4 billion pounds out of the government’s back-office processes by the 2012-2013 year. He plans to do this by outsourcing these processes to private companies.

IRS Targeting Foreign Payments
