A prominent business process outsourcing firm in India is preparing to hire hundreds of U.S. workers to handle expected industry growth in 2010.
According to an article published in The Seattle Times, Infosys, the India’s third largest BPO firm, plans to hire about 1,000 new U.S. employees during the next 12 to 18 months. This includes 100 people to man the Bellevue, Wash. location.
Despite increasing U.S. resentment towards BPO firms, Infosys officials state the decision has nothing to do with improving their public image. Instead, they want to better position the company to handle large American clients such as Microsoft. Infosys currently employs 14,000 American workers.
"We believe business will be there if we add capabilities, more services and solutions to our portfolio and increase the business volume with the existing customers ... that's how we see growth coming to our business," says Infosys CEO Kris Gopalakrishnan.
Gopalakrishnan, speaking at a gathering of CEOs, said that the economy is poised to rebound, provided businesses are able to leave behind the greed that led to the financial meltdown but not abandon the innovations that were gained as well.
